Digital/Soft Certificates for PEXA Document Signing

This page provides information on PEXA Document Signing, specifically for issuing and managing Gatekeeper-aligned soft certificates.
PEXA's primary method of document signing is through their mobile signing option, the PEXA Mobile Signing app. Cogito recommends this method as the safest most convenient and most cost effective method of performing digital signing of documents within the PEXA ecosystem. This app-based method enables users to sign transactions without installing a traditional certificate or additional software for controlling the use of certificate components. It also reduces the procedural steps to register for, obtain and install a certificate to use for digital signing on the PEXA platform.
Cogito also offer a soft certificate capability for customers that have a preference to not use a mobile based signing app. This soft certificate-based capability is accepted by PEXA and still provides the ability to digitally sign documents on the PEXA platform. The soft certificate capability is a formal, Gatekeeper-accredited digital identity stored on a user’s computer. Certificates are provisioned through Cogito’s SecureSME portal, with fast onboarding, compliant identity proofing, and lifecycle control at scale.
Please refer to PEXA Mobile Signing App page for further information on the recommended method of digital signing on the PEXA platform.
What is a soft certificate, and why does PEXA require it?
A soft certificate is a secure, Gatekeeper-accredited digital identity stored on your computer. It is used to create legally binding digital signatures for e-conveyancing.
PEXA requires each authorised user to sign documents and settlement instructions with their own individual digital certificate. This ensures strong identity verification, tamper-proof signing, and compliance with Australian e-conveyancing regulations.
