Regional Internships

At the start of 2017, Cogito Group introduced an internship program for regional Australians to gain experience in the IT industry. This program is to assist those who live in regional areas of Australia and don’t have access to the same opportunities as those who live in a capital city. The internship is aimed at those who are currently studying at a regional TAFE or University; or have recently completed a course and are interested in cyber security.

Jared Evans, from Alstonville NSW, was Cogito Group’s first intern in January 2017.  “The internship was probably one of the best things to happen for me. I went from an area with no real IT job opportunities to Canberra.  Jumping into development work after orientation was a great learning curve, and my supervisor was helpful to make sure I was going along fine”. Jared explained how completing this internship ensured that he was choosing the right career for him “The internship was a surefire way for me to be sure this was the path I wanted to go down.”

After Jared’s 4 week internship, he continued his employment with Cogito Group and was a valued employee for almost two years before moving onto another role in Canberra.

Richard Brown, Managing Director of Cogito Group, explains why he wanted to provide this opportunity, “I grew up in regional NSW and understand how difficult it is to gain experience because of your location.  We started this internship program so students, and also those who have finished their degree, can gain an insight into the industry and see if IT and Cogito Group is a good fit for them”

Cogito Group has offered regional internships annually since then. In 2024, Jordan Wylde-Brown from Tasmania commenced his internship in February. He has travelled back to Tasmania but will be joining Cogito Full-Time in May 2024.  The internship is paid and provides all travel and accommodation assistance for the successful candidate.

Many people live in areas that have poor employment opportunities and do not have the financial means to move to areas where there is more opportunity.

Community Sponsorship

M16 Artspace – encourage art – encourage artists

Since 2020 Cogito has been sponsoring the M16 Artspace Drawing Prize. This is a local Canberra gallery that with the assistance of the sponsorship prize money from Cogito, attracts entries from around the world. Thirty outstanding finalists have been selected for each show, with the Drawing Prize finalists decided by our esteemed judging panel – Bree Pickering (Director, National Portrait Gallery), Samantha Faulkner (ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Network) and Hannah Quinlivan (celebrated local artist).

Further Community Sponsorships

In the past, Cogito has also sponsored a local ACT sportsperson to assist with their Commonwealth Games dreams.

Cogito Group support the Smith family education initiative, a number of local STEM based programs and other initiatives as part of our Community support initiatives program.
