Operations Manager – Technical

Wellington Location 

Cogito Group is a growing IT Company specialising in cyber security, PKI and Identity Management.

The Operations Manager role is a perfect fit for someone with experience working as a mid to senior engineer, with dev, systems administrator, testing and/or architectural skills that wants more variety in what they do and those looking to transition to a management position.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens and hold or can get a security clearance. This role requires a high degree of general technical proficiency with at least one specailisation, but not necessarily in a related field. It also requires the ability to understand the exact technical aspects of the position quickly.

We are looking for a very technically capable person with ability to provide consultation services to customers, to lead others to achieve more as a team and for that leadership to be proven to that team by being able to do as well as task. It would be ideally suited to a network infrastructure specialist wishing to get more opportunities for variety of work and for building leadership skills with a growing team.

This position would ensure that the current as a service (aaS) operations is running smoothly as well as deal with any issues that arise as part of that operations. The successful candidate will also be able to deal and assist with the management of projects delivering capability.

The role also involves design, implementation and maintenance of both hardware and software as a Service capability in the areas of PKI, Authenticaiton, Encryption and Identity Management. The products are those of our partners as well as our own products.

This role is an interesting mix of operations and consulting with a vast array of variety in the work, touching anything from Linux and Microsoft platform support to firewalls, routers and switches to implementing code to support the flow of data between information repositories.

Onsite training is provided but successful candidates are expected to be a self-starter and also have the ability for self-learning as well as the ability to teach and enable others.

Duties will include:

  • Operations:
    • Maintenance of existing systems;
    • Identify any issues with current systems and services;
    • Identify areas that could be improved, formulate and costs designs for these improvements;
    • Submission of business case information for improvements;
    • Allocation and management of staff to rectify any issues or improvements to completion;
    • Completion of individual operations and development tasks as required; and
    • Maintain and ensure others maintain documentation.
  • Customer Service:
    • Provide consulting services to our customer base;
    • Schedule, conduct, manage, report and trend outputs from regular client interactions; and
    • Management of client queries, inquiries and complaints.
  • People and Culture:
    • Management of some recruiting functions including the recruitment pipeline and conducting interviews and assessments.;
    • Support to employee performance management activities;
    • Management of employee professionalisation program;
    • Facilitation of in-house training programs;
    • Provide mentoring to other staff;
    • Management of relationships and engagements with professional and industry bodies;
    • Management of employee queries, inquiries and complaints; and
    • reporting to senior management on services and projects.
  • Business Development:
    • Management and maintenance of incoming opportunities database; and
    • Assist in the drafting of bid responses

Qualifications

  • Degree of Engineering/Computer Systems or a related discipline or experience will be highly regarded;
  • Industry certifications such as MCSE or CCNA highly regarded by not essential; and
  • ITIL qualifications would be highly regarded.

Highly desirable but not essential requirements, skills and experience:

  • Hands on operational support experience;
  • Proficiency in one coding language;
  • Previous consulting experience as an engineer or architect;
  • ICT operations and systems administration experience;
  • demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languages (object-oriented, scripting or functional);
  • experience in developing enterprise software;
  • experience with administration and support of windows desktops and servers;
  • experience with administration and support of UNIX systems;
  • presales support experience;
  • Previous experience in PKI and Identity Management not necessary but highly regarded; and
  • Previous team management experience highly regarded.
